Ashing techniques in the determination of iron and copper in palm oil
Abstract
A modified method suitable for routine determination of iron and copper in palm oil was developed. The method involves all stages of ashing including charring, ashing and ash dissolution, using fabricated ashing vessels made of pyrex glass that can stand ashing temperatures of up to 700°C. The ashed samples were recovered quantitatively after refluxing with HNO3 and collected in the attached round‐bottomed flask readied for metals determination without transfer. The relative standard deviation for the determination of iron by flame atomic absorption was about 1.0%, whereas for copper determined by ion selective electrode it was about 0.5%.

Decomposition of organic contents is a general pretreatment procedure for partial or complete removal of the matrix of edible oils, but it is time-consuming and there is no unique ashing procedure for all metals due to their reactivities and volatilities.

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
