Towards black hole scattering

Abstract

We study black holes in three-dimensional Chern–Simons gravity with a negative cosmological constant. In particular, we identify how the Chern–Simons interactions between a scattering particle and a black hole project the particle wavefunction onto a wavefunction in the black hole background. We also analyze the set of spacetimes that should be allowed in the theory and the way in which boundary conditions affect the spectrum of spacetimes.

Claims other papers make about this one

Each is checked against this paper’s own text: does it say what the citing paper says it does?

  • In Chern-Simons scattering computations, imposing invariance under the mapping class group is necessary to recover the correct classical limit.

“In each case, it is only when one imposes invariance under the mapping class group that one recovers the correct classical limit.”

From Quantum Gravity in 2 + 1 Dimensions: The Case of a Closed Universe (2005) · cites this paper as [259]

In “Scattering off a black hole” (page unavailable), the paper says that the braiding projection makes a probe wave-function periodic and reconstructs its semiclassical form on a BTZ black-hole background. This supports the role of projection in that scattering calculation, but our copy does not establish the broader claim that mapping-class-group invariance is necessary in each case to recover the correct classical limit. About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
