Influence of Ru Substitution on the Properties of LaCoO 3 Catalysts for Ammonia Synthesis: XAFS and XPS Studies
Abstract
In the present work, LaCo 1– x Ru x O 3 perovskites ( x = 0, 0.01, and 0.02) were synthesized, and the influences of the partial substitution of Co by Ru on the reducibility and structural properties of LaCoO 3 perovskite were investigated by XRD, TPR, XPS, STEM, and XAFS techniques. The results indicate that Ru is incorporated into the LaCoO 3 lattice, giving rise to a decrease of mean crystallite size as well as promotion of perovskite reducibility. At 450 °C and 1 MPa, LaCo 0.98 Ru 0.02 O 3 shows an ammonia synthesis rate of 10.5 mmol/(g NH3 ·h) and insignificant decline of activity in a run of 50 h. On contrast, the ammonia synthesis rate over the Ru/LaCoO 3 counterpart prepared by wet impregnation method gradually drops from 8.05 to 7.15 mmol/(g NH3 ·h). Moreover, there is strong synergy between Ru and Co species in LaCo 0.98 Ru 0.02 O 3, affording enrichment of Ru δ+ clusters and surface Co 2+ species that are beneficial to N 2 adsorption and activation.

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
