MgF2 and polymeric coatings functioned as dual corrosion-inhibiting barriers: MgF2 physically isolated substrate, and PDA/PEI chemically sequestered Mg2+ via catechol-mediated metal chelation.
“Mechanistically, inorganic MgF2 layer and polymeric coatings might have functioned as dual corrosion-inhibiting barriers (Fig. 2i): the former physically isolated the substrate from corrosive media, while the latter chemically sequestered Mg2+ ions via catechol-mediated metal chelation in the PDA/PEI interlayer [25], preventing substrate dissolution.”

Section 3.3.2 reports that TA–PEI coatings reduce corrosion by making it harder for corrosive fluid to reach the Mg substrate, supporting the general polymer-barrier mechanism. But Sections 2.1–2.2 identify the studied coating as tannic acid–PEI, not MgF2 and PDA/PEI; the Introduction describes catechol-mediated crosslinking with PEI, not chelation that sequesters Mg2+. The cited paper therefore does not support the claimed dual-layer composition or chemical mechanism. (LLM, conf=0.87)

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
