Ab initio study of precipitate stability in an Mg–Zn–Zr–Y alloy and its effects on corrosion, antimicrobial and in vitro biocompatibility
Abstract
DFT study of precipitate stability in an Mg–5Zn–0.5Zr–0.9Y alloy reveals that the Mg 24 Y 5 phase is more stable than the Mg 7 Zn 3 phase. The alloy exhibited excellent antibacterial activity without deteriorating cytocompatibility.

Increased hydrophobicity reduces attachment of water molecules to the coating surface, and the densified network structure blocks penetration of corrosive ions like Cl−.
“This structural modification is critical for corrosion protection45,46, as increased hydrophobicity reduces the attachment of water molecules to the coating surface, and the densified network structure effectively blocks the penetration of corrosive ions like Cl⁻.”

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
