Asymptotics of 6 j and 10 j symbols
Open accessAbstract
It is well known that the building blocks for state sum models of quantum gravity are given by 6 j and 10 j symbols. In this work, we study the asymptotics of these symbols by using their expressions as group integrals. We carefully describe the measure involved in terms of invariant variables and develop new technics in order to study their asymptotics. Using these technics, we compute the asymptotics of the various Euclidean and Lorentzian 6 j symbols. Finally, we compute the asymptotic expansion of the 10 j symbol which is shown to be non-oscillating, in agreement with a recent result of Baez et al . We discuss the physical origin of this behaviour and a way to modify the Barrett–Crane model in order to cure this disease.

The physical state selects the 'forward' propagating component of the transition amplitude.
“Thus, the physical state selects the 'forward' propagating [22] component of the transition amplitude.”

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
