Diabetic control and nutritional status up to 1 year after total pancreatectomy: a nationwide multicentre prospective study
Open accessAbstract
Dear Editor Total pancreatectomy is increasingly performed worldwide with aftercare using newly developed insulin products and high-titre pancrelipase1–4. Furthermore, recent advances in diagnostic modalities have led to an increase in the number of patients diagnosed with existing lesions in the remnant pancreas during follow-up after initial pancreatectomy5. However, current data on diabetes management and nutritional status following total pancreatectomy from large nationwide series remain lacking, and the differences between one-stage total pancreatectomy and completion pancreatectomy are not known. The aim of this study was to assess glycaemic control and nutritional status after total pancreatectomy. In a prospective nationwide multicentre study, data were assessed for 216 consecutive patients who underwent total pancreatectomy, including one-stage total pancreatectomy and completion pancreatectomy, between August 2015 and December 2017 in 68 Japanese centres (Trial registration UMIN-CTR #UMIN000018763). Of the 216 patients, 180 patients with a follow-up period of 1 year were included in the study. Changes in glycaemic control and nutritional status within a year after surgery were investigated, in addition to the differences between one-stage total pancreatectomy (106 patients) and completion pancreatectomy (74 patients). Data were collected at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months after surgery (postoperative month (POM) 1, 3, 6, and 12) during the follow-up period. Clinicopathologic…

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
