Mapping and cloning
Abstract
In order to identify zebrafish genes affected by mutations, both mutations and candidate genes are commonly placed on genome maps (Figure 1). Two types of maps are relevant for this approach: genetic maps, in which the probability of meiotic recombination between markers is used to determine their distance and construct the map; and radiation hybrid maps, in which breakage induced by radiation takes the place of recombination. Mutations can be placed only on genetic maps. This type of map is produced by scoring a large number of polymorphic markers on a panel of F2 fish from a reference cross. Two markers are close to each other if they give a similar pattern of alleles across the panel. Mutations are placed on the map indirectly, by scoring previously mapped markers on a panel of mutant.

Rough mapping of F2 progeny against a reference panel of SSLP markers indicated that fls was located on linkage group (chromosome) 9 (LG9) with loose linkage to z20031 (61.3cR).

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
