Gastric Emptying in Subclinical Hypothyroidism

Sar, Oktay, Ksakol, Gürcan, Kayaçetin, Ertuğrul, Kaya, Ahmet·2005·The Endocrinologist

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate solid-phase gastric emptying in patients with subclinical hypothyroidism and to compare it with healthy subjects. Twenty patients with a recently established diagnosis of subclinical hypothyroidism and 10 age-matched healthy subjects participated in this study. Gastric emptying half-time was calculated with solid food labeled with 250 μCi 99mTc-sulfur colloid. There was no difference between serum free T3 and T4 values in both groups. Serum thyroid-stimulating hormone level was significantly higher in the subclinical hypothyroid group than in controls. Gastric emptying half-time was 123.94 ± 18.58 minutes in the subclinical hypothyroid group and 101.80 ± 25.56 minutes in the control group. These gastric emptying half-times were not different (P = 0.455). We suggest that in subclinical hypothyroidism, gastric emptying of solids is similar to that in age-matched healthy control subjects.

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
