Dielectric function in HgTe between 8 and 300°K

Grynberg, M., Le Toullec, R., Balkanski, M.·1974·Physical Review B

Abstract

Reflectivity spectra of HgTe were measured in the spectral region from 80 to 600 ${\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ at temperatures between 8 and 300\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}K. The wave numbers of the transverse-optical phonon ${\ensuremath{\omega}}_{\mathrm{TO}}=117$ ${\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ and longitudinal-optical phonon ${\ensuremath{\omega}}_{\mathrm{LO}}=132$ ${\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ at 8\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}K were determined. The total dielectric function including the interband ${\ensuremath{\Gamma}}_{8}\ensuremath{-}{\ensuremath{\Gamma}}_{8}$ contribution was analyzed. Plasmon-phonon dispersion diagrams were obtained. The theoretical analysis is compared with experimental results at all temperatures. Possible consequences of the adiabatic approximation breaking down in zero-gap semiconductors is examined. A new low-frequency mode is reported, its temperature dependence is given, and its origin is discussed from physicochemical arguments.

Claims other papers make about this one

Each is checked against this paper’s own text: does it say what the citing paper says it does?

  • In classic QBT systems α-Sn and HgTe, the dielectric enhancement was relatively modest (ε ∼ 3.5 and 7 respectively).

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
