Light pipe for high intensity laser pulses
Abstract
Optical guiding of intense laser pulses over a distance of more than 20 Rayleigh lengths in a plasma is demonstrated using a two-pulse technique. The first pulse prepares a shock-driven, axially extended radial electron density profile which guides a second pulse, injected after an optimum delay which increases with mass of the plasma ions. In the intensity range considered here (${10}^{3}$--${10}^{14}$ W/${\mathrm{cm}}^{2}$), the channel is observed to support mode structure reminiscent of an optical waveguide.

A parabolic transverse density profile can be matched to guide a Gaussian laser mode without distortion in the low intensity limit, and guiding has been previously demonstrated over many Z_R at input intensities below 2x10^17 W/cm2.

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
