Adrenomyeloneuropathy: Demonstration of inclusions at the level of the peripheral nerve
Abstract
A patient is reported with a progressive neurological disease which started at the age of 19 years and included spasmodic paraplegia, urinary disorders, impotence and neuropathic signs. The neurological syndrome was associated with adrenal failure. The disease led to death within 5 years. In this characteristic picture of adrenomyeloneuropathy, biopsy of peripheral nerve disclosed lamellar inclusions in the Schwann cell cytoplasm. Such structures, which have already been observed in the sural nerve of some adrenolcukodystrophy cases reported previously, are described for the first time in a case of adrenomyeloneuropathy.

Peripheral nerves in AMN show variable and mild lesions of chronic axonal atrophy with secondary demyelination.
“The few studies on peripheral nerves in AMN [16,18,20,82,84,85,86] highlight variable and mild lesions of chronic axonal atrophy with secondary demyelination [49].”

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
