Confirmation of Constraints on ΔT from Multiple European and Arab Reports of Medieval Eclipses
Abstract
Hitherto unused reports of medieval European and Arab reports of eclipses, emanating from outside as well as inside the paths of totality, are analysed for the determination of ΔT. These results support our conclusions for the variations in the Earth’s rate of rotation published in L. V. Morrison, F. R. Stephenson, C. Y. Hohenkerk and M. Zawilski, 2021, “Addendum 2020 to Measurement of the Earth’s Rotation: 720 BC to AD 2015.” Proceedings of the Royal Society of London A , 478. https://doi.org/10.1098/rspa.2020.0776 .

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
