Abstract

The degradation of potassium clavulanate in a weakly alkaline aqueous solution has been investigated. Potassium clavulanate was degraded in 0.1 M Na2HPO4 solution at various temperatures. Four degradation products were isolated and their structures were elucidated as 2, 5-bis-(2-hydroxyethyl) pyrazine (I), 3-methyl-2, 5-bis-(2-hydroxyethyl) pyrazine (II), 3-(2-carboxyethyl)-2, 5-bis-(2-hydroxyethyl) pyrazine (III). and 3-ethyl-2.5-bis-(2-hydroxyethyl) pyrazine (IV) by mass spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. High-performance liquid chromatographic analysis of the reaction solution indicated that the reaction at 60°C yielded all four pyrazine derivatives, whereas II was not formed at 35°C and III was not formed at 100°C. A reaction mechanism is proposed which involves 4-amino-3-oxobutanol (IX) as a key intermediate.

  • The kinetic approach is consequent with a feasible chemical mechanism of reaction for CA in aqueous solutions characterized by several equilibrium steps.

“This kinetic approach is consequent with a feasible chemical mechanism of reaction for CA in aqueous solutions, characterized by several equilibrium steps (Figure 4) [28,29].”

From Degradation Kinetics of Clavulanic Acid in Fermentation Broths at Low Temperatures (2019) · cites this paper as [28]

The Degradation Mechanism section (p. 6) proposes a multistep mechanism for clavulanate degradation, supporting the claim that a feasible chemical mechanism exists. It does not characterize those steps as equilibria or establish that the proposed mechanism follows from the citing paper’s kinetic approach; the study concerns weakly alkaline aqueous solution, not aqueous solutions generally. About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
