DreamBooth: Fine Tuning Text-to-Image Diffusion Models for Subject-Driven Generation
Open accessAbstract
Large text-to-image models achieved a remarkable leap in the evolution of AI, enabling high-quality and diverse synthesis of images from a given text prompt. However, these models lack the ability to mimic the appearance of subjects in a given reference set and synthesize novel renditions of them in different contexts. In this work, we present a new approach for "personalization" of text-to-image diffusion models. Given as input just a few images of a subject, we fine-tune a pretrained text-to-image model such that it learns to bind a unique identifier with that specific subject. Once the subject is embedded in the output domain of the model, the unique identifier can be used to synthesize novel photorealistic images of the subject contextualized in different scenes. By leveraging the semantic prior embedded in the model with a new autogenous class-specific prior preservation loss, our technique enables synthesizing the subject in diverse scenes, poses, views and lighting conditions that do not appear in the reference images. We apply our technique to several previously-unassailable tasks, including subject recontextualization, text-guided view synthesis, and artistic rendering, all while preserving the subject's key features. We also provide a new dataset and evaluation protocol for this new task of subject-driven generation. Project page: https://dreambooth.github.io/

Fine-tuning models of AI drawing algorithms, when provided with a larger training set, can better capture artistic styles.
“Additionally, fine-tuning models of AI drawing algorithms, when provided with a larger training set, can better capture artistic styles [65].”
From Exploring Designers’ Perceptions and Practices of Collaborating with Generative AI as a Co-creative Agent in a Multi-stakeholder Design Process: Take the Domain of Avatar Design as an Example (2023) · cites this paper as [65]
Section 4.4 (page unavailable) says the fine-tuned model can generate renditions of a subject in a famous painter’s style. Figure 20 (page unavailable) says more input images can improve reconstruction of a subject’s identity, but it does not link a larger training set to better capture of artistic styles. (LLM, conf=0.87)

The contemporary art field is generally embracing the novel opportunities brought by computational experiments and algorithmic randomness within current generative AI systems.
“With its nature of being avant-garde to the limits, the contemporary art field is generally embracing the novel opportunities brought by the computational experiments and algorithmic randomness within the current generative AI systems [49,65].”
From Exploring Designers’ Perceptions and Practices of Collaborating with Generative AI as a Co-creative Agent in a Multi-stakeholder Design Process: Take the Domain of Avatar Design as an Example (2023) · cites this paper as [65]
Section 4.4, “Applications” (page not provided), shows that DreamBooth can generate novel artistic renditions. The cited paper does not address whether the contemporary art field generally embraces generative AI, computational experimentation, or algorithmic randomness; searches for those ideas found no supporting passage. About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
