Dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction followed by high-performance liquid chromatography as an efficient and sensitive technique for simultaneous determination of chloramphenicol and thiamphenicol in honey
Abstract
Dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography-variable wavelength detector (HPLC-VWD) was developed for extraction and determination of chloramphenicol (CAP) and thiamphenicol (THA) in honey. In this extraction method, 1.0 mL of acetonitrile (as dispersive solvent) containing 30 microL 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane (as extraction solution) was rapidly injected by syringe into a 5.00-mL water sample containing the analytes, thereby forming a cloudy solution. After extraction, phase separation was performed by centrifugation and the enriched analytes in the sedimented phase were determined by HPLC-VWD. Some important parameters, such as the nature and volume of extraction solvent and dispersive solvent, extraction time, sample solution pH, sample volume and salt effect were investigated and optimized. Under the optimum extraction condition, the method yields a linear calibration curve in the concentration range from 3 to 2000 microg kg(-1) for target analytes. The enrichment factors for CAP and THA were 68.2 and 87.9, and the limits of detection (S/N=3) were 0.6 and 0.1 microg kg(-1), respectively. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) for the extraction of 10 microg kg(-1) of CAP and THA were 4.3% and 6.2% (n=6). The main advantages of DLLME-HPLC method are simplicity of operation, rapidity, low cost, high enrichment factor, high recovery, good repeatability and extraction solvent volume at microliter level. DLLME has been applied not only to water samples but also to more complex matrices such as honey, urine, and pig muscle.
“As can be seen, not only water samples have been analyzed [17,69,70] but also more complex ones {e.g., honey [68,71], urine [65,72,73] and pig muscle [58]}.”

In a later work by the same group [71], the methodology was extended to simultaneous extraction of chloramphenicol and thiamphenicol, with relative recoveries of 89.5-93.6% and RSD less than 6.3%.
“In a later work of the same group, the methodology was extended to the simultaneous extraction of chloramphenicol and its analogue thiamphenicol [71], for which relative recoveries were 89.5-93.6% and RSD less than 6.3%.”

Pharmaceuticals are an important group of analytes that have been the objective of DLLME procedures, including antibiotics, tricyclic antidepressant drugs, clenbuterol, hypnotic drugs, psychotropic drugs, anti-inflammatory drugs, and cholesterol-lowering agents.
“Another important group of analytes that have been the objective of DLLME procedures are pharmaceuticals (see Table 2) {e.g., antibiotics [58,68,71], tricyclic antidepressant drugs [69], clenbuterol [70], hypnotic drugs [72], psychotropic drugs [73], anti-inflammatory drugs [65] and cholesterol lowering agents [17]}.”

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
