Thumbnail-preserving encryption based on improved logistic system

Abstract

Plaintext images and images encrypted using traditional encryption schemes in cloud storage represent the extremes of usability and privacy. Recently, thumbnail-preserving encryption (TPE) has been proposed to balance the usability and privacy of images in the cloud. An ideal TPE scheme should achieve lossless decryption, the same thumbnail, low time complexity, and resistance to certain attacks, which are missing in existing TPE schemes. Motivated by this idea, we propose a new TPE scheme based on an improved logistic chaotic system, which takes advantage of the good dynamics of the chaotic system and withstands the experimental evaluations in terms of privacy and usability. In the encryption mechanism, we design the TPE scheme from the binary and rank-then-encrypt perspectives by randomly selecting pixels. Compared with the existing schemes, the proposed scheme can reach the ideal state with only one round of encryption. Meanwhile, the experimental results such as time cost, image visual quality and security analysis also show that the scheme has strong competitiveness.

  • Zhu and Liu [204] constructed a point selection table using a modified Logistic mapping that generated more disordered selected points, resulting in increased confidentiality of the ciphertext image in thumbnail-holdout encryption.

“Utilizing a modified Logistic mapping, Zhu and Liu [204] constructed a point selection table that generated more disordered selected points, resulting in increased confidentiality of the ciphertext image in thumbnail-holdout encryption.”

Sections 4.2 and 4.3 describe using the improved logistic map’s chaotic sequence to index and randomly select pixels; the Introduction says this approach disrupts pixel correlations and makes the thumbnail-preserving encryption scheme more secure. Our copy does not describe constructing a “point selection table” or specifically show that such a table produces more disordered selected points. (LLM, conf=0.83)

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
