Abstract

In this article a continuous-discrete high-gain observer is presented to estimate the molar compositions in a distillation column for the Ethanol-Water mixture, by using the measurements of the temperatures in its plates. One of the main advantages of this observer is its constant gain, which is why its tuning depends only on choosing constant parameters that must satisfy some simple algebraic inequalities. The continuous-discrete observer presents a good pursuit of the process dynamics in spite of using less data than a purely discrete observer. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated using experimental data.

  • High-gain observers have shown excellent performance in nonlinear systems with parameters and disturbances with uncertainty, particularly in biological and environmental processes.

“These observers have shown excellent performance in nonlinear systems with parameters and disturbances with uncertainty, particularly in biological and environmental processes [25,26].”

Section 4 (page not provided) reports good performance of a high-gain observer in a nonlinear distillation process when controlled inputs changed. Section 3 models an unknown, bounded disturbance, but the reported results do not establish performance under uncertain parameters and disturbances. The paper studies an ethanol–water distillation column, not biological or environmental processes. (LLM, conf=0.86)

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
