Novel [Sm2I(NPPh3)5(DME)] Initiator for the Living Ring-Opening Polymerization of ε-Caprolactone and δ-Valerolactone

Abstract

Ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone (CL) and δ-valerolactone (VL) was carried out using the initiator system [Sm 2 I(NPPh 3 ) 5 (DME)] in the presence of toluene. Experimental molecular weights were in good agreement with the theoretical molecular weights for [CL] 0 /[ 1 ] 0 up to 350. Polydispersities are low at 0−20 °C but increase at higher temperatures. Addition of small amounts of coordinating solvents such as THF and DME decreased the rate of polymerization and thereby reduced the polydispersity. The active polymer chain ends have been shown by sequential copolymerization of CL and VL, resulting in block copolymers.

We couldn’t retrieve this paper’s full text, so its claims and self-check weren’t run. The registry and citation checks still apply.

Claims other papers make about this one

Each is checked against this paper’s own text: does it say what the citing paper says it does?

  • At 0 °C with the bimetallic Sm initiator, the molecular weight distribution is narrow (PDI ~ 1.2), indicating fast initiation compared with propagation and transesterification reactions.

“At 0 °C, the molecular weight distribution is narrow (PDI ~ 1.2), which indicates a fast initiation compared with propagation and transesterification reactions if any.”
  • Bimetallic [Sm2I(NP(C6H5)3)5(DME)] is an effective initiator for ROP of ε-CL and δ-VL in toluene.

    “Greiner and co-workers have shown that bimetallic [Sm 2 I(NP(C 6 H 5 ) 3 ) 5 (DME)] is an effective initiator for ROP of ε-CL and δ-VL in toluene [ 16].”

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
