Supersaturation and activity-rotation relation in PMS stars: the young cluster h Persei

Open access

Abstract

Context. Several studies showed that the magnetic activity of late-type main-sequence (MS) stars is characterized by different regimes and that their activity levels are well described by the Rossby number, Ro, defined as the ratio between the rotational period Prot and the convective turnover time. Very young pre-main-sequence (PMS) stars show, similarly to MS stars, intense magnetic activity. However, they do not show clear activity-rotation trends, and it still debated which stellar parameters determine their magnetic activity levels.

  • Lower activity levels for slowly rotating stars can already be seen in the 12 million year old stellar cluster h Per.

“Such lower activity levels for slowly rotating stars can already be seen in the 12 million year old stellar cluster h Per (Argiroffi et al. 2016).”

From The young Sun's XUV-activity as a constraint for lower CO2-limits in the Earth's Archean atmosphere (2021) · cites this paper as Argiroffi et al. 2016

Section 5.1 says some of the slowest rotators have slightly lower X-ray luminosity, supporting the activity trend. The paper describes h Per as approximately 13 million years old, not 12 million, and limits the lower-activity finding to some stars rather than slow rotators generally. (LLM, conf=0.86)

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
