Quantum Liouville theory and BTZ black hole entropy

Open access

Abstract

In this paper I give an explicit conformal field theory description of (2 + 1)-dimensional BTZ black hole entropy. In the boundary Liouville field theory I investigate the reducible Verma modules in the elliptic sector, which correspond to certain irreducible representations of the quantum algebra . I show that there are states that decouple from these reducible Verma modules in a similar fashion to the decoupling of null states in minimal models. Because of the nonstandard form of the Ward identity for the two-point correlation functions in quantum Liouville field theory, these decoupling states have positive-definite norms. The explicit counting from these states gives the desired Bekenstein–Hawking entropy in the semi-classical limit when q is a root of unity of odd order.

Claims other papers make about this one

Each is checked against this paper’s own text: does it say what the citing paper says it does?

  • For 2+1 black hole solutions, dynamics at either the horizon or the boundary at infinity can lead to local degrees of freedom.

“For such solutions, dynamics at either the horizon or the boundary at infinity can lead to local degrees of freedom [78, 247, 59, 96, 51, 24, 91]”

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
