Neutron Diffraction Study of Fe7Se8. II

Abstract

Ferrimagnetic orderings of the moments of iron atoms in Fe 7 Se 8 are confirmed by neutron diffraction method; the moment is parallel to that of each atom on the same atomic layer parallel to the (001), while it is antriparallel to that on the next layer. When the temperature of the crystal is lowered from the Néel temperature (455°K), the direction of the moment, which is at first on the (001), changes towards the [001]. The behaviour of this "stand up" process depends on the type of the crystallographic superstructure of the specimen: gradually in the 4 c type crystal and abruptly in the 3 c type one. The ionic models of the magnetic structure, used in the case of pyrrhotite, for example, are not consistent with the result of the present experiment. A model with a more metallic character seems to be acceptable, which is supported by the Mössbauer effect experiment.

This paper’s full text isn’t openly available, so its claims and self-check weren’t run. The registry and citation checks still apply.

Claims other papers make about this one

Each is checked against this paper’s own text: does it say what the citing paper says it does?

  • Iron deposited on a Se-terminated Bi2Se3 surface is expected to form a mild chemical bond, occupy an ionization state between 2+ and 3+, and have roughly 4 μB magnetic moment.

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
