Phosphorylation, Oxidation, and Ubiquinone Content in Diabetic Mitochondria

Boveris, A. A., Ramos, M. C. d. P., Stoppani, A. O. M., Foglia, V. G.·1969·Experimental Biology and Medicine

Abstract

Respiratory and phosphorylat-ing activities were determined in liver mitochondria from mild and severely diabetic rats. Diabetes was caused by 95% pancreatectomy performed 6-18 months before the investigation of mitochondrial function. Diabetic mitochondria showed depressed respiratory rates with β-hydroxybutyrate, L-malate-L-glutamate, and succinate as substrates while the P:O ratios did not depart from the normal control values, with all the employed substrates. Ubiquinone levels were significantly increased in mitochondria from severely diabetic rats while cytochrome c and mitochondrial protein remained unchanged.

Claims other papers make about this one

Each is checked against this paper’s own text: does it say what the citing paper says it does?

  • In liver and muscle mitochondria isolated from rodents or cats with insulin-deficient diabetes induced by pancreatectomy, alloxan, or streptozotocin, respiration on complex I or complex II substrates is decreased.

“Early studies revealed decreased respiration on complex I or complex II substrates in liver and muscle mitochondria isolated from rodents or cats made diabetic by pancreatectomy, alloxan, or streptozotocin (38, 119, 127, 322).”

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
