Abstract

  • In textbooks, women's achievements and contributions to humanity are ignored, so they cannot be portrayed as socially or symbolically representative figures.

“given that their achievements and contributions to humanity are ignored, they cannot be portrayed as socially or symbolically representative figures (Fernández, 2017; Lee & Collins, 2008).”

From The influence of school textbooks on the configuration of gender identity: A study on the unequal representation of women and men in the school discourse during the Spanish democracy (2022) · cites this paper as Fernández, 2017

Section 3.3 and the Conclusions report that the Chilean history textbooks often omit women’s works, talents and contributions, supporting that part of the claim. But the Conclusions also say the textbooks portray some women as distinguished figures through judgments of social significance and achievement. The paper therefore does not support the categorical claim that they cannot be portrayed as socially representative figures. (LLM, conf=0.88)

  • All of this draws the reader's attention to elements that do not necessarily have any direct relationship to the cultural, political, historical or economic context being alluded to.

“All of this draws the reader's attention to elements that do not necessarily have any direct relationship to the cultural, political, historical or economic context being alluded to (Fernández, 2017).”

From The influence of school textbooks on the configuration of gender identity: A study on the unequal representation of women and men in the school discourse during the Spanish democracy (2022) · cites this paper as Fernández, 2017

The Conclusions (page unavailable) say that school textbooks often focus on women’s gender rather than their qualities or contributions to the country’s history. That supports the narrower idea of attention shifting away from historical contributions, but the paper does not establish the broader claim about readers’ attention or a lack of direct connection to cultural, political, historical, or economic context generally.

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
