Age of the Sudbury diabase dykes and their metamorphism in the Grenville Province, Ontario
Abstract
Diabase dykes of the Sudbury swarm in the Southern Province have baddeleyite U-Pb ages of 1235 +7/-3 Ma. Deformed metadiabase dykes in the adjacent Grenville Province, formerly correlated on the basis of chemistry, have the same age, and in addition contain metamorphic zircon formed at ~1000Ma, derived from igneous baddeleyite. This late Grenvillian age of metamorphism is corroborated by whole rock-garnet Sm-Nd ages. Sudbury metadiabase cuts earlier fabrics in metasedimentary gneiss in the Grenville Province, associated with metamorphism at ~1445 Ma. The Sudbury dykes are interpreted to have intruded across a structural and metamorphic front established at this time during a quiescent period preceding Grenvillian orogeny.

The northwestern part of the Parautochthonous belt, known as the Grenville Front tectonic zone (GFTZ), is characterized by front-parallel structures with dip-parallel lineations.
“The northwestern part of the belt, known as the Grenville Front tectonic zone (GFTZ), is characterized by front-parallel structures with dip-parallel lineations, and the various domains and terranes of the Parautochthonous belt are linked lithologically to the foreland and each other by the presence of deformed mafic dykes belonging to, or having chemical affinities with, the c45 1235 Ma Sudbury”

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
