Weil-Petersson volume of moduli spaces, Mirzakhani's recursion and matrix models
Open accessAbstract
We show that Mirzakhani's recursions for the volumes of moduli space of Riemann surfaces are a special case of random matrix loop equations, and therefore we confirm again that Kontsevitch's integral is a generating function for those volumes. As an application, we propose a formula for the Weil-Petersson volume Vol(M_{g,0}).

JT gravity is equivalent, order by order in the topological expansion, to a double-scaled matrix integral.
“Eynard and Orantin (2007) started from Mirzakhani’s recursion relation (4.20) and applied to it the Laplace transform (4.41) to derive a recursion relation for . After a lengthy calculation, they obtained precisely the recursion (4.38) with the spectral curve used in JT gravity. This result completes the derivation that JT gravity is equivalent, order by order in the topological expansion, to a double-scaled matrix integral.”

Corollary 2.1 (p. 3) identifies the Laplace-transformed Weil–Petersson volume recursion with a spectral curve for the Kontsevich matrix integral and gives a genus expansion. The Conclusion says the transformed Mirzakhani recursion solves that integral’s loop equations. Our copy does not identify the theory as JT gravity or establish equivalence to a double-scaled matrix integral; that broader equivalence is the citing authors’ conclusion. (LLM, conf=0.86)

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
