Abstract

The discovery of artificial radioactivity triggered the birth of nuclear medicine: a peculiar medical specialty able to depict pathophysiological processes in the human body by using radiopharmaceuticals. The major boost to nuclear medicine in patient management was the development and commercial availability of hybrid positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography CT and single photon emission tomography (SPECT)/CT scanners. The most important role of PET/CT with radiolabeled choline is restaging of prostate cancer after radical prostatectomy or radiotherapy. The early assessment of response to therapy by interim PET/CT in patients with lymphoma can predict remission of disease and complete response, with high positive predictive value. Common guidelines suggest the use of scintigraphy with labeled leukocytes in clinical and laboratory suspicion of osteomyelitis and spondylodiscitis, infection of joint prosthesis, fever of unknown origin, infective endocarditis, and vascular graft infections. Radioguided surgery enables surgeons to identify lesions or tissues that have been preoperatively marked with radioactive substances.

  • Integrating stimulus-responsive release systems into radiopharmaceuticals can significantly enhance precision, imaging capabilities, and therapeutic efficacy while minimizing side effects and toxicity.

“In the context of radiopharmaceuticals, which contain radioactive isotopes used for diagnosing or treating diseases, integrating stimulus-responsive release systems can significantly enhance the precision, imaging capabilities, and therapeutic efficacy of these drugs while minimizing side effects and toxicity [25].”

From Radiopharmaceuticals: navigating the frontier of precision medicine and therapeutic innovation (2024) · cites this paper as [25]

The Introduction defines radiopharmaceuticals as radioisotope-labeled compounds used for diagnosis and therapy. It does not discuss stimulus-responsive release systems or show that integrating them improves precision, imaging, therapeutic efficacy, or safety; searches for controlled release and adverse effects found no such passage. About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
