Synthesis of model linear tetrablock quaterpolymers and pentablock quintopolymers of ethylene oxide
Abstract
Abstract Multiblock copolymers of ethylene oxide, with four and five different blocks, were synthesized by the sequential anionic polymerization of styrene, isoprene, 2‐vinyl pyridine, t‐butyl methacrylate, and ethylene oxide with benzyl potassium as an initiator. The monomer sequence was based on the relative nucleophilicity of the active centers. Characterization of the multiblock copolymers by size exclusion chromatography (with refractive‐index and UV detectors), membrane osmometry, and NMR spectroscopy confirmed that benzyl potassium is an efficient initiator for the synthesis of well‐defined multiblock multicomponent copolymers of ethylene oxide. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Hadjichristidis et al. reported a classic example of synthesis of multiblock copolymers by sequential polymerization; the resulting BCPs exhibited a very low PDI of 1.04 and compositions observed from 1H-NMR were consistent with feeding ratios.
“One classic example of the synthesis of multiblock copolymers by sequential polymerization was reported by Hadjichristidis et al., as shown in Scheme 4A [50]. The resulting BCPs exhibited a very low PDI of 1.04 and the compositions observed from 1H-NMR were consistent with the feeding ratios.”

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
