Evolution of Molecular Design of Porphyrin Chromophores for Photovoltaic Materials of Superior Light‐to‐Electricity Conversion Efficiency

Abstract

Zinc porphyrins (ZnPs) attract high interest as efficient chromophores for dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Progress in the molecular design and solar cell materials led to a record of 13% power conversion efficiency of porphyrin‐sensitized solar cells. Until recently, ZnPs were limitedly used in bulk‐heterojunction solar cells (BHJ SC). However, application of porphyrin chromophores designed for DSSCs to BHJ SCs has rapidly increased the efficiency of the latter with both small‐molecule and polymer ZnP donors. Herein, we briefly review the developmental history of molecular design of ZnPs for DSSCs, and illustrate the influence of this development on the design of small‐molecule and polymer ZnP donors for BHJ SCs.

Claims the paper makes

This paper’s full text isn’t openly available, so its claims and self-check weren’t run. The registry and citation checks still apply.

Claims other papers make about this one

Each is checked against this paper’s own text: does it say what the citing paper says it does?

  • Only a limited number of review articles are found related to porphyrin-based bulk heterojunction organic solar cells, and these review articles are brief.

“However, just a limited number of review articles are found related to porphyrin-based BHJ OSCs, 17,18 and these review articles are also brief.”
  • Porphyrins are extensively used for dye sensitized solar cells, and numerous research articles and several review papers have been published.

“In fact, porphyrins are extensively used for dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), and numerous research articles and several review papers have been published. 9 -17”

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
