Absorption Kinetics of Levothyroxine Is Not Altered by Proton-pump Inhibitor Therapy
Abstract
Introduction Iodothyronines are widely prescribed drugs in developed countries. Several studies have shown a high prevalence of hypothyroidism in unselected populations [ 1 ]. In view of the frequency and comparatively small therapeutic range of thyroid hormones, interactions with other drugs are of considerable importance. The absorption of iodothyronines is known to be influenced by numerous substances, including antacid drugs [ 2 ] [ 3 ]. Sufficient gastric acidity has been assumed to be a prerequisite for effective iodothyronine resorption as a result [ 4 ]. However, whether thyroid replacement therapy is disturbed in patients treated with proton-pump inhibitors is still unknown, although this most effective form of acid inhibition is increasingly prescribed. To address this question, we have conducted a study in order to answer the question as to whether proton-pump inhibition affects levothyroxine resorption.

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
