Investigation of wavy fin-and-tube heat exchangers: a contribution to databank
Abstract
In the present study, a total of 22 samples of fin-and-tube heat exchangers having wavy fin configurations were tested. The effects of the number of tube rows, fin pitch, and edge corrugation on the air-side performance were examined. It is found that the heat transfer characteristics were strongly related to the corrugation angle, and the ratio of waffle height and wave length. In addition, the effect of edge corrugation had negligible effect on the air-side performance. The proposed correlation can describe 93.02% of j and 91.8% of f within 10%.

The modified friction factor correlation provides a close estimation of the pressure drop under frosting conditions (method 5).
“The modified friction factor correlation provides a close estimation of the pressure drop (Eq. (39)) under frosting conditions (method 5).”
Various friction factor correlations exist, such as those developed for uncoated wavy fin-and-tube heat exchangers under dry conditions and for hydrophilic coatings under wet conditions.

Method 4 performed satisfactorily under frosting conditions.
“Method 4, which utilizes the existing friction factor correlation method proposed by Wang (1999) [34], performed satisfactorily under frosting conditions.”

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
