Cardiorespiratory control
Abstract
The primary role of both the cardiovascular and the respiratory systems in vertebrates is the exchange of respiratory gases between the external environment and the tissues. The respiratory system, involving either gills or lungs, has evolved together with the cardiovascular system, and only in cooperation can the two systems ensure maintenance of the appropriate diffusion gradients for oxygen and carbon dioxide between air (or water) and blood, and between arterial blood and the tissues. Tissue respiration thus depends on the physiological adjustments of both respiratory and cardiovascular functions.

Fibers emerging from the ventral vagal nucleus have a respiratory rhythm.
“Since the fibers emerging from the ventral vagal nucleus have a respiratory rhythm [5,50,51], it is possible to track the functional impact of these pathways through early development by studying RSA in laboratory mammals (e.g., rats, rabbits) and preterm infants.”

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
