Decay of an atom coupled strongly to a reservoir

Garraway, B. M.·1997·Physical Review A

Abstract

An approach to the decay of a two-state quantum system coupled to a resonant environment is developed in terms of exact (nonperturbative) master equations. Starting from a quantum optical model of a two-level system coupled to a heatbath, it is shown that the effect of the bath can be replaced by one or more pseudomodes. This description is valid for a wide class of analytic density-of-state functions and it leads to exact master equations which fully describe the non-Markovian decay of the quantum system without the use of perturbation theory, the Born approximation, or the Markov approximation. Two examples are given: a simple model of a density-of-states gap which has two poles, and a non-Lorentzian resonance.

Claims other papers make about this one

Each is checked against this paper’s own text: does it say what the citing paper says it does?

  • Non-Markovian dynamics better preserve quantum information due to backflow of quantum information from the reservoir to the central spin.

“Furthermore, it is well-known that non-Markovian dynamics better preserve quantum information, as non-Markovianity induces a backflow of quantum information from the reservoir to the central spin [106,107,108,109,110,111,112,113,114,115,116].”

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
