Time-optimal quantum control of nonlinear two-level systems

Chen, Xi, Ban, Yue, Hegerfeldt, Gerhard C.·2016·Physical Review A

Abstract

Nonlinear two-level Landau-Zener type equations for systems with relevance for Bose-Einstein condensates and nonlinear optics are considered and the minimal time ${T}_{\mathrm{min}}$ to drive an initial state to a given target state is investigated. Surprisingly, the nonlinearity may be canceled by a time-optimal unconstrained driving and ${T}_{\mathrm{min}}$ becomes independent of the nonlinearity. For constrained and unconstrained driving explicit expressions are derived for ${T}_{\mathrm{min}}$, the optimal driving, and the protocol.

Claims the paper makes

This paper’s full text isn’t openly available, so its claims and self-check weren’t run. The registry and citation checks still apply.

Claims other papers make about this one

Each is checked against this paper’s own text: does it say what the citing paper says it does?

  • Chen et al showed that for nonlinear systems with unconstrained controls, the maximal quantum speed is independent of the strength of the nonlinearity, and nonlinear systems at maximal speed evolve as fast as equivalent linear systems.

“This claim was refuted by Chen et al [267], and they showed explicitly that the maximal quantum speed of nonlinear systems for unconstrained controls is independent of the strength of the non-linearity, and that non-linear systems at maximal speed evolve as fast as equivalent linear systems.”

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
