Density perturbations in the ekpyrotic scenario
Open accessAbstract
We study the generation of density perturbations in the ekpyrotic scenario for the early universe, including gravitational backreaction. We expose interesting subtleties that apply to both inflationary and ekpyrotic models. Our analysis includes a detailed proposal of how the perturbations generated in a contracting phase may be matched across a ``bounce'' to those in an expanding hot big bang phase. For the physical conditions relevant to the ekpyrotic scenario, we reobtain our earlier result of a nearly scale-invariant spectrum of energy density perturbations. We find that the perturbation amplitude is typically small, as desired to match observation.

Each of the other cosmological scenarios (pre-Big-Bang, ekpyrotic/cyclic, Aguirre-Gratton, and Bojowald loop quantum gravity) invokes special low-entropy conditions on some Cauchy surface, either asymptotically in the far past or at some moment of minimum size for the universe.
“To the best of our understanding, each of these proposals invokes special low-entropy conditions on some Cauchy surface, either asymptotically in the far past or at some moment of minimum size for the universe.”

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
