Shubnikov-de Haas Measurements in N-Type Pb1-xSnxTe
Open accessAbstract
Relatively large n-type Pb 1-x Sn x Te single crystals with various x values (x=0–0.28) were prepared and the Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations were measured. The results indicate that the Fermi surface consists of four [111] spheroids whose anisotropies increase with decreasing band gap. The effective mass and effective g *-values of the conduction band were estimated as functions of the alloy composition, and the results are analyzed by a simple two-band non-parabolic model, which gives the transverse momentum matrix element P ⊥=√0.58(1+0.211 x)/2, and the longitudinal momentum matrix element P //=√0.046(1-0.142 x)/2, both in atomic units (a.u.).

Pb-rich crystals can be grown with the chemical potential above the bulk valence band maximum, in-gap or n-type, so that it lies near the surface state Dirac point.
“Moreover, it is possible to grow Pb-rich crystals in which the chemical potential can be brought up above the bulk VBM (in-gap or even n-type) 19 , so as to lie near the surface state Dirac point.”

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
