Instant Nutritional Assessment
Abstract
Instant nutritional assessment of the hospitalized patient is described based upon admission serum albumin levels and total lymphocyte counts. Abnormalities of these parameters are associated with markedly increased morbidity and mortality in a series of 500 consecutively admitted patients. It is suggested that instant nutritional assessment be performed on all hospitalized patients with appropriate alterations and therapy being made to allow for nutritional repletion.

In 1979, Seltzer et al. recommended that serum albumin be one of two biochemical parameters, the other being total lymphocyte count, for an 'instant nutrition assessment'.
“The concept was reinforced in 1979 when Seltzer et al. (35) recommended that serum albumin be 1 of 2, the other being total lymphocyte count, biochemical parameters for an “instant nutrition assessment”.”

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
