Abstract

This work shows the influence of specific surface area (BET) and surface pH of different activated carbons on the photocatalytic activity of UV-irradiated TiO 2 in the 4-chlorophenol (4CP) photodegradation.Carbons were prepared from sawdust of Tabebuia Pentaphyla wood by physical activation with CO 2 and by pyrolysis under N 2 flow at temperatures from 450 up to 1000ºC during 1h Chemical activation was also performed by the impregnation of precursor with ZnCl 2 , H 3 PO 4 and KOH at different concentrations, followed by activation under N 2 flow at 450ºC by 1h.Comparison of apparent first-order rate constants between TiO 2 against TiO 2 -AC indicate that TiO 2 photoactivity is enhanced or inhibited as a function of AC properties and correlations with surface area and pH PZC were found suggesting that surface pH of carbons is the most important parameter that influences TiO 2 activity in the 4CP photodegradation.

Claims other papers make about this one

Each is checked against this paper’s own text: does it say what the citing paper says it does?

  • Activated carbon is a porous, amorphous solid carbon material derived mainly from carbonaceous or plant-based (lignocellulosic) materials and can be used as a support for TiO2.

“Activated carbon (AC), also termed active carbon, activated charcoal, or activated coal, is a porous, amorphous solid carbon material derived mainly from carbonaceous or plantbased (lignocellulosic) materials such as coconut shell, [113][114][115][116][117][118][119] activated charcoal, 120 sawdust of Tabebuia pentaphyla wood, 121-124 pine sawdust, 125 beech sawdust, 126 peach stones, 127 almond”

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
