Gobies of the Genus Gillichthys, with Comments on the Sensory Canals as a Taxonomic Tool

Barlow, George W.·1961·Copeia

Abstract

THE original aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the species of Gillichthys found in the northern part of the Gulf of California and the one which occurs on the Pacific Coast of California. Shortly it became clear that it would be necessary to redescribe the forms involved because of the inadequate state of the existing treatments. The need for redescription was apparent because of the confusion prevailing in the literature, and the discovery of many incorrectly identified specimens in various museums in California.

  • Increased inhibitory input reduces sensitivity of excitatory neurons to changes in auditory input and expands dynamic range of neural responses.

“Increased inhibitory input reduces the sensitivity of excitatory neurons to changes in auditory input and expands the dynamic range of neural responses (BOX 1), and also potentially increases the efficiency of encoding217.”

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
