Abstract

ABSTRACT The seaweed, kelp was used as a precursor for the preparation of activated carbon by phosphoric acid activation. The effect of heat treatment on the porous and adsorption properties of the prepared activated carbon was investigated by N 2 adsorption–desorption isotherms. Additionally, the coadsorption of antibiotic amoxicillin and chromium from saline water onto the activated carbon from the seaweed was evaluated. The Freundlich isotherms for the adsorption of amoxicillin indicated that the adsorption capacities of the prepared activated carbon from seawater were significantly higher when heat treated at 400°C and 500°C than 200°C and 300°C. On the other hand, for the adsorption of hexavalent chromium, findings were the direct opposite. The adsorption processes of amoxicillin and hexavalent chromium were well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The optimum pH was around 6.3 for the adsorption of hexavalent chromium in the mixed system containing amoxicillin and hexavalent chromium onto AC400.

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
