The Apple Watch series 4 and 5 are the first wearable devices that allow consumers to generate electrocardiograms (ECGs) using the ECG app.Obtaining an ECG using an Apple Watch is as easy as opening the ECG app and touching the digital crown with a finger. The watch then records 30 seconds of a "single-channel ECG similar to a lead I ECG" (1). An associated app (ECG app) in the iPhone (Apple) can do a rhythm analysis and classify the recording as sinus rhythm, bradycardia, tachycardia, or atrial fibrillation or as inconclusive.... Claims the paper makes

This paper’s full text isn’t openly available, so its claims and self-check weren’t run. The registry and citation checks still apply.

Claims other papers make about this one

Each is checked against this paper’s own text: does it say what the citing paper says it does?

  • Single-lead ECGs are often insufficient for the accurate diagnosis of more complex arrhythmias and other conditions such as myocardial infarction or to detect interval abnormalities unless specific manoeuvres are deployed.

“However, these single-lead ECGs are often insufficient for the accurate diagnosis of more complex arrhythmias and other conditions such as myocardial infarction (MI) or to detect interval abnormalities unless specific manoeuvres are deployed17.”
  • Single-lead ECG wearables can be manipulated to acquire a 12-lead ECG for acute coronary syndrome diagnosis, as shown in a case report.

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
