Prevalence of Obesity and Incidence of Obesity-Related Comorbidities in Koreans Based on National Health Insurance Service Health Checkup Data 2006–2015
Open accessAbstract
BACKGROUND: The prevalence of obesity and related comorbidities is increasing worldwide, including in Korea. The Korean Society for the Study of Obesity released the Obesity Fact Sheet 2017 to address this problem in the Korean population. METHODS: , and that of abdominal obesity was a waist circumference ≥90 cm in men and ≥85 cm in women. Multivariate adjusted Cox regression analysis was conducted, and hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals were calculated for comorbidities. RESULTS: . CONCLUSION: Based on the Obesity Fact Sheet 2017, strategies for reducing the prevalence of obesity and abdominal obesity are essential.

An analysis based on the Korean National Health Insurance Service reported that waist circumference was associated with increased risks of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and myocardial infarction, and that these risks further increased with higher BMI values.
“In the Korean context, an analysis based on the Korean National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) reported that waist circumference, as a measure of abdominal obesity, was associated with increased risks of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and myocardial infarction, and that these risks further increased with higher BMI values [22].”

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
