Coalescence and Break-Up in Bubble Columns: Euler-Lagrange Simulations Using a Stochastic Approach

Gruber, Michael C., Radl, Stefan, Khinast, Johannes G.·2013·Chemie Ingenieur Technik

Abstract

Abstract A systematic study of the impact of break‐up and coalescence (B&C) on the hydrodynamics in a bubble column is presented. A stochastic approach was chosen for the integration of various B&C kernels into a four‐way coupled Euler‐Lagrange model. The model is benchmarked against the Deen case, and good agreements were found for the gas holdup and the bubble size distribution. While the results indicate that monodisperse bubbles suffice to correctly forecast the flow features, B&C models are the key to predict the specific interfacial area especially in the lower half of the bubble column.

  • Gruber et al. [246] found that comparison between their numerical results and the experiments of Deen et al. [249] shows a good match in terms of time-averaged vertical liquid velocity, axial and lateral fluctuating velocity, and gas hold-up.

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
