Abstract

The aim of the present study was to determine the phenolic content and the antioxidant activity of rosemary collected from three different bioclimatic stages of Tunisia during four seasons. Ethanol and ethyl acetate extracts of rosemary leaves were isolated by Soxhlet and the contents of total polyphenols, total flavonoids and total condensed tannins of rosemary extracts were determined by spectrophotometric method. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis allowed the quantification of the main phenolic compounds, namely rosmarinic acid and carnosic acid. Antioxidant assays were evaluated by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical-scavenging, 2,2ʹ-azinobis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid, β-carotene bleaching, iron reducing power and ferric reducing antioxidant power assays. There was a strong correlation between antioxidant activity and phenolic content depending on bioclimatic and season effects.

  • For R. officinalis, the phenolic diterpenes carnosic acid and carnosol are considered important chemotaxonomic markers.

“and, for R. officinalis, the phenolic diterpenes carnosic acid and carnosol are also considered important (Mena et al., 2016;Troncoso et al., 2005;Yeddes et al., 2019;Yilmaz et al., 2018;Zhang et al., 2012).”

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
