Spatial and spectral shape of inhomogeneous nonequilibrium exciton-polariton condensates
Open accessAbstract
We develop a mean-field theory of the spatial profile and the spectral properties of polariton condensates in nonresonantly pumped semiconductor microcavities in the strong coupling regime. Specific signatures of the nonequilibrium character of the condensation process are pointed out: a striking sensitivity of the condensate shape on the optical pump spot size is demonstrated by analytical and numerical calculations, in good quantitative agreement with recent experimental observations.

Restricting the incoherent pump to a limited region of space allows control of the condensate shape via the volcano effect: condensation mostly occurs at the center of the pump spot, and coherent particles are expelled by repulsive interactions to form a macroscopic outward-expanding radial flow.
“restricting the incoherent pump to a limited region of space allows to control the shape of the condensate via the so-called volcano effect: condensation mostly occurs at the center of the pump spot, and then the coherent particles get expelled by the repulsive interactions and form a macroscopic outward-expanding radial flow.”

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
