Abstract

A surface ion trap with integrated waveguides produces no additional heating and modest frequency shifts due to photoinduced charging when uv light is delivered to an ion, thus providing the stability needed for compact quantum timekeeping devices.

  • Ion experiments with integrated photonic addressing to date utilize multiple inputs passively routed on-chip to arrays of ions, with modulation implemented off-chip.

“Ion experiments with integrated photonic addressing to date [10,15,222,227] utilize multiple inputs passively routed on-chip to arrays of ions, with modulation implemented off-chip.”

From 2022 Roadmap on integrated quantum photonics (2022) · cites this paper as [227]

The trap-design section describes light entering an input grating, traveling through an integrated waveguide, and leaving an output grating to address an ion. The paper describes a single-ion experiment; the passages do not establish multiple inputs routed to an ion array or specify that modulation was implemented off-chip. (LLM, conf=0.85)

  • Electric-field noise, both at megahertz frequencies where it heats ion motion and at much lower frequencies where it leads to trap potential drifts, can be more problematic in complex traps with integrated functionality.

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
