Abstract

What you need to know• Most patients with covid-19 can be managed remotely with advice on symptomatic management and self isolation• Although such consultations can be done by telephone in many cases, video provides additional visual cues and therapeutic presence• Breathlessness is a concerning symptom, though there is currently no validated tool for assessing it remotely• Safety-netting advice is crucial because some patients deteriorate in week 2, most commonly with pneumonia

  • The NHS swiftly implemented guidelines suggesting that the majority of COVID-19 patients should be monitored remotely with advice on symptom management and self-isolation, given that information on safety netting was provided.

“The NHS swiftly implemented guidelines suggesting that the majority of COVID-19 patients should be monitored remotely with advice on symptom management and self-isolation, given that information on safety netting was provided [19].”

From A prospective observational real world feasibility study assessing the role of app-based remote patient monitoring in reducing primary care clinician workload during the COVID pandemic (2021) · cites this paper as [19]

In “What you should do,” the paper says most community-based patients can be managed by remote advice, including symptomatic care and self-isolation; “Safety net advice” says safety-netting is important for all patients. But the Abstract says the article is not an official guideline and that national and local guidance was still being produced. It therefore does not support the attribution that the NHS had swiftly implemented these guidelines. (LLM, conf=0.88)

  • Case identification by online symptom reporting, as seen in Singapore and the UK, traditionally used for surveillance, now offers advice on isolation and referrals to further healthcare services, such as video assessments and testing.

  • Some consider telehealth to be a threat due to a prospective weakening of therapeutic relationships, reduced stability of care, and compromised confidentiality.

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
