New boundary conditions for AdS2

Open access

Abstract

We describe new boundary conditions for AdS 2 in Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity. The asymptotic symmetry group is enhanced to Diff(S1) ⋉ C∞(S1) whose breaking to SL(2, ℝ) × U(1) controls the near-AdS 2 dynamics. The action reduces to a boundary term which is a generalization of the Schwarzian theory and can be interpreted as the coadjoint action of the warped Virasoro group. This theory reproduces the low-energy effective action of the complex SYK model. We compute the Euclidean path integral and derive its relation to the random matrix ensemble of Saad, Shenker and Stanford. We study the flat space version of this action, and show that the corresponding path integral also gives an ensemble average, but of a much simpler nature. We explore some applications to near-extremal black holes.

Each is checked against this paper’s own text: does it say what the citing paper says it does?

  • For the d CGHS cylinder with each boundary length β, the path integral is P_cyl(β) = 2π^2/β.

“To that end, the path integral on the cylinder (each of whose boundaries has length β) is P cyl ðβÞ ¼ 2π 2 β :ð3:3Þ”

From Free energy from replica wormholes (2021) · cites this paper as [27]

Section 8.3.2, equation (8.58), gives the d CGHS cylinder path integral as Z_cyl(β₁,β₂) = 4π²γ/(β₁+β₂). Setting both boundary lengths to β gives 2π²γ/β, not the claimed 2π²/β unless γ is set to 1. (LLM, conf=0.90)

Experimental — accuracy not yet measured
  • For the d CGHS disk with boundary length β, the path integral is P_disk(β) = 2π/β^2.

    “For the disk with boundary length β, the result is 5 P disk ðβÞ ¼ 2π β 2 :ð3:2Þ”

From Free energy from replica wormholes (2021) · cites this paper as [27]

Section 8.3.1, eq. (8.47), gives a one-loop-exact disk partition function with the claimed 2π/β² dependence. Its result also contains γ and α normalization factors, which the citing sentence omits; the unqualified equality is therefore not fully supported. (LLM, conf=0.86)

Experimental — accuracy not yet measured

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
