Abstract

Zinc oxide (ZnO) optical microcavity modulated UV lasers have been attracting a wide range of research interests. As one of the most important materials in developing high quality microcavity and efficient UV–visible optoelectronic devices due to its wide band gap (3.37 eV) and large exciton binding energy (∼60 meV). In this review, we summarized the latest development of ZnO optical cavity based microlasers, mainly including Fabry-Perot mode lasers and whispering gallery mode lasers. The synthesis and optical studies of ZnO optical microcavities with different morphologies were discussed in detail. Finally, we also consider that the research focus in the near future would include new nanotechnology and physical effects, such as nano/micro fabrication, surface plasmon enhancement, and quantum dot coupling, which may result in new and interesting physical phenomena.

Claims other papers make about this one

Each is checked against this paper’s own text: does it say what the citing paper says it does?

  • ZnO has a wide band gap (3.3 eV), optical transparency in the visible range, and a high exciton binding energy at room temperature (60 meV), making it suitable for the development of optical planar microcavities due to strong coupling generating exciton-polaritons at room temperature.

“In addition to a wide band gap (3.3 eV) and optical transparency in the visible range, this semiconductor oxide also benefits from a high exciton binding energy at room temperature (60 meV), making it suitable for the development of optical planar microcavities due to the strong coupling, which generates exciton-polaritons at room temperature [99-102].”

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
