Treatment of depression and anxiety in Parkinson's Disease: A pilot study using group cognitive behavioural therapy

Feeney, Farah, Egan, Sarah, Gasson, Natalie·2005·Clinical Psychologist

Abstract

Depression and anxiety affect up to 50% of people with Parkinson's Disease (PD) (Marsh, 2000 Marsh, L , 2000. Anxiety disorders in Parkinson's disease , International Review of Psychiatry 12 (2000), pp. 307–318.[Taylor & Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] , [Google Scholar]; Murray, 1996 Murray, JB , 1996. Depression in Parkinson's disease , The Journal of Psychology 130 (1996), pp. 659–668.[Taylor & Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] , [Google Scholar]), however, few studies have examined the effectiveness of psychological treatment. This study examined the effectiveness of group cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) in treating depression and anxiety in PD. Four participants, aged between 56 and 81 years, who had been diagnosed with PD and suffering from depression and/or anxiety were included in the study. The results suggested that CBT was effective in treating depression and anxiety in PD. Furthermore, the results supported that the gains were maintained at 1-month follow-up.

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
